Focus: This summer school will explore different aspects of lexical typology, including lexicon-grammar interface, ways of describing lexicon cross-linguistically, experimental approaches to the typology of lexicon, multilingual lexicography, sign language typology, diachronic analysis of semantic shifts. The students will be able to take away a basic understanding of different aspects of world lexical systems, as well as different approaches to cross-linguistic analysis of lexicon.

Description:
Word is one of the most vague and ill-defined concepts in linguistics. It comprises both a Chinese monosyllable and an Circassian polysynthetic construction with dozens of morphemes; a phonetic unity in spoken languages and a combination of signs and gestures in sign languages; a semantic network of several meanings (not always close to each other) and a set of morphological and syntactic properties. It is also the most rapidly changing entity of a language.
The International Summer School on Typology and Lexicon is focused on different approaches to word with the special emphasis on meaning. Topics of the School cover a broad range of subjects relevant to the study of lexical semantics and lexical typology. The School invites international scholars and students. In addition to the main program we organize Young Linguists' International Conference with poster presentations.

Participants should announce their intention to take part in the Summer school by contacting the School Secretary Maria Zarifyan at tylex.hse
gmail.com The Secretary will advise them as to the necessary steps. Linguistics students at MA or PhD level are invited to present their ongoing research at the Young Linguists’ International Conference that will take place within TyLex — 2017. The call for abstracts is not restricted to any area of linguistic typology. The abstracts should start with the title, and clearly state research questions, approach, method, data and (expected) results. Please follow the guidelines to submission at the School's site.
