Description:
The Columbia School Linguistic Society invites applications for its Post-doctoral Fellowship Program. The successful applicant will undertake a linguistic research project from the perspective of Columbia School (CS) linguistics.
The project will address a grammatical, lexical, or phonological problem, or a problem in another area of linguistics, studied from the perspective of CS. The Fellow must be a holder of the Ph.D. degree from a recognized university. The Society will make every effort to make a Mentor available in cases where this is appropriate.
The Fellow will receive a stipend of $65,000 for the period of Sept. 1, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2018. Stipend payments will be made on a monthly basis. The Fellowship includes Society membership.
The application consists of a statement of the problem, an account of existing analyses under CS and other theoretical approaches, a brief review of the relevant literature, and a description of the data to be used.
The deadline for receipt of proposals is May 31, 2017. Proposals will be reviewed by members of the Society’s Executive Committee, assisted by additional reviewers. Applicants will be notified by the end of June 2017.
The Fellow will work full time on the Fellowship project during the period of the Post-doctoral Fellowship and will produce analytical results accordingly. The Fellow will participate on a regular basis in the bi-monthly CS Columbia University Seminar and will be the lead presenter in one of these seminars in the Fall and one in the Spring for reports of work-in-progress and consultation with Seminar members. The Fellow is expected to be an active supporter of the Society.
The Fellow will provide a year-end progress report detailing the state of the analysis at the end of the Fellowship period, by Aug. 31, 2018.
After the Fellowship period ends, the Fellow will make every effort to publish results in a recognized academic venue, acknowledging therein the support of the Society.
