Reference: 995164. Applications are invited for positions in the Department of English by applicants specializing in one or more areas in applied linguistics. The Department of English is a research-led department that trains graduates for careers as English-language professionals in the fields of translation, media and communication, finance and international business, and language education. Since its inception in 2008, the Department has established four undergraduate programmes of study with a concentration on applied English studies, English literature as well as translation studies. The Department also has a vibrant postgraduate programme of MA Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and is to launch another postgraduate offering in MA Mass Media Translation in 2017. In addition to Masters programmes, the Department operates a successful research-based doctoral programme, through the faculty supervise PhD student in their specialist areas. The Department welcomes applications from those who possess:
- A PhD in applied linguistics, in particular in areas of discourse analysis in professions, including media, law, business as well as academic discourse
- Experience in designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules in these related areas of applied linguistics
- A growing research profile in the field of applied linguistics or related areas plus a commensurate record of research impact
- Demonstrated capacity in teaching and research-related administration；
- The ability to teach subjects in English, the medium of instruction of the University.
In addition, those applicants aiming to be appointed at the Associate Professor level should be able to clearly demonstrate:
- A good record of the supervision of MA or PhD candidates
- Experience in curriculum development or programme management
- A developing or international research profile or record of research funding
With a faculty of 15 members and a student body of 300, the Department of English is one of the more established entities in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. The University is a unique collaborative institution, the first and currently the only university in China to offer both UK (University of Liverpool) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited undergraduate degrees. The University now has over 10,000 students. Academic members of staff enjoy access to a wide range of electronic databases as well as print resources.
XJTLU is located in the Higher Education Town of Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), well-connected via nearby airports to cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and Taipei, and via high-speed rail to other major cities in China, and is just 25 minutes away from Shanghai.
The salary range for the positions is 23,850 – 29,222 RMB/month (Lecturer), and 29,664 – 40,497 RMB/month (Associate Professor). In addition, members of academic staff are entitled to accommodation and travel allowances, medical insurance, and relocation expenses.
