Graduate students in French can also obtain Ph.D. Concentrations in Romance Linguistics and in Second Language Acquisition and Teacher Education (SLATE), and can pursue graduate minors in other area studies, such as cinema, gender, and immigration. Thanks to the rigorous training and individual mentoring of all our graduate students, we have an excellent job placement rate for students who sought employment in the U.S. and around the world.
All admitted students receive some form of financial aid. Students teach three courses per year to train in teaching and pedagogy while earning a stipend for nine months that allows them to live comfortably in Champaign-Urbana. In addition, the department offers summer fellowships, support for conference travel, opportunities to study in Europe and Quebec, and release time for students focusing on their research. Highly qualified students can receive prestigious School and Campus fellowships as well as external fellowships and grants.
This year we offer additional financial incentives to all applicants admitted in our programs.
