The Department of French & Italian at the University of California, Davis is accepting applications for our graduate programs in French. Both MA and PhD degrees are offered.
Students have the option to pursue study in Linguistics, as well as Literature and Cultural Studies. Students will enjoy close working relationships with nationally recognized research-active faculty. Faculty research interests include: discourse analysis, cultural linguistics, film, gender and sexuality, theater, music and sound studies, colonial and postcolonial literature, critical theory, cultural studies and fashion history, in fields of study from the middle ages to the present day.
Students benefit from an open curriculum, having the potential to create their own path with all the resources of a top-tier university at their disposal. Students may pursue one of several Designated Emphases (graduate minors), allowing them to pursue a secondary concentration in African American and African Studies, Classics and the Classical Tradition, Critical Theory, Feminist Theory and Research, Second Language Acquisition, or Studies in Performance and Practice.
TA-ships and fellowships cover the cost of tuition and pay a stipend for rent and living expenses.
