Description:

The University of Texas at Arlington invites applicants for our PhD in Linguistics program for Fall 2018. Department research seeks to deepen understanding of language by examining how it is represented, used, and processed. We work toward this goal through courses in theoretical linguistics, focusing on phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and psycholinguistics as well as the interfaces among these domains of inquiry. To explore questions in these areas, we provide training in multiple methods, including field methods, corpus-based methods, and experimental research methods, to collect and analyze data from a wide range of the world's languages, and from both native and non-native speakers of these languages.

All newly admitted Ph.D. students in Linguistics are considered for a variety of Graduate Teaching and Research Assistantship packages, including the Dean’s Doctoral Assistantship. The DDA will provide a generous stipend for 9-months of study, paying $15,300 per year until you successfully complete your comprehensive exams – typically during your third year. From the semester following the successful completion of your comprehensive exams, your salary will increase to $16,650 per year. The Dean’s Doctoral Assistantship also provides you with 85% tuition coverage of full-time study each academic year for up to 5 years, for fall and spring semesters of full-time enrollment.
