Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pittsburgh is pleased to invite applications from creative, highly-qualified and motivated researchers for a 20-month postdoctoral position. The beginning date of the appointment would be September, 1 2018 continuing through August 31, 2019 with the possibility of renewal through April 30, 2020.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in linguistics with an emphasis on working on corpora and on L2 data using computational tools. We value rigor and an inter-disciplinary approach that includes diverse theoretical viewpoints, and a collaborative perspective. The applicant will be working closely with Professor Alan Juffs (http://www.linguistics.pitt.edu/people/alan-juffs) and Dr. Na-Rae Han (http://www.linguistics.pitt.edu/people/na-rae-han) and their ELI corpus data mining team. Experience using Python and other data science techniques is essential. An additional advantage will be knowledge of PRAAT and experience with phonetic analysis.

Applications should include a cover letter describing your database analysis experience and qualifications for the position, a CV, a two-page research proposal, and contact information for 3 references. Research statements must specify how the applicant’s research will integrate with and benefit from working with the SLA group at Pitt. Specifically, there is an opportunity to work on a longitudinal corpus of L2 spoken and written learner language. Other collaborators include Dr. Na-Rae Han and graduate students. The position may involve some teaching, but this part of the post-doc is negotiable.

Compensation includes a competitive salary and benefits plan. The position will remain open until filled.
