Focus: Mapping and analyzing linguistic data with the geographical information system REDE SprachGIS.

Description:
The online application REDE SprachGIS offers access to the digital Wenker atlas; various digitzed regional atlases (mostly, but not only mapping German varieties); the digitized questionnaires from Georg Wenkers survey on German dialects in the late 19th century, comprising 19 languages; speech recordings from different corpora and the Georeferenced Online Bibliography of Areal Linguistics.

In the system you can also draw your own maps and/or import and map your own data. The system offers different mapping methods, for example pie-chart maps or point-symbol maps.

In the workshop you will learn how to use all the data the system offers for your own research and how to map your own data.

The language of the workshop is German. It is free of charge.
