Description:

The Department of German Studies at the University of Vienna is seeking to
hire a postdoc in sociolinguistics.

Your tasks will include active participation in research, teaching, and
administration. This involves:
- involvement in research projects, especially in the Special Research Program
(SFB) “German in Austria. Variation - Contact - Perception"
(https://dioe.at/en/);
- involvement in project applications; development of a research profile in
the framework of variationist linguistics/sociolinguistics (with an emphasis
on Austria);
- scientific qualification research;
- international publications and presentations;
- independent teaching of courses and assistance in teaching as defined by the
collective agreement (this includes the examination and supervision of
students);
- involvement in the department administration as well as in the teaching and
research administration.

The SFB 'German in Austria' is a collaborative research project located in the
humanities. For the first time, four institutions across Austria collaborate
in researching and documenting German in Austria. The SFB investigates the
breadth of variation and varieties of German in Austria from the perspectives
of variationist linguistics, language contact and multilingualism, and
researches sociolinguistic questions of language attitudes and perceptions.

Your profile:
- doctorate or PhD degree completed with very good marks in German Studies;
- research emphasis on the area of variationist linguistics/sociolinguistics
(evident through PhD-thesis/dissertation, work experience in research
projects, publications or other qualifications);
- project experience in the context of scientific research;
- experience with empirical methods regarding language data processing and the
analysis of spoken language;
- excellent knowledge of office software package;
- experience with (big) corpora and data handling;
- good knowledge of analysis software;
- user experiences w.r.t. databases;
- interest in the conceptualisation and implementation of digital methods and
software solutions;
- excellent command of written and spoken English;
- team spirit
