Meeting Description:

Workshop: Multilingualism, Contact and Documenting Endangered Languages, to be held in conjunction with the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Linguistic Society of America in New York City, on the afternoon of Sunday, January 6, 1:00pm-6:00pm, organized by Jack Martin & Lenore Grenoble.

Venue: The workshop will be held at the Sheraton New York Times Square hotel ( This is the site of the LSA annual meeting (

The workshop is funded by a grant from NSF DEL #1748376. It will kick off the Year of Indigenous Languages, and is endorsed by the LSA’s Committee on Endangered Languages & their Preservation (CELP). Attendance is free and open to all.

The workshop is aimed at advancing the field of language documentation by focusing on documenting multilingualism and language contact. Emphases of the workshop will include consideration of the state of multilingualism in endangered language ecologies, identification of the current state of knowledge in this area, and examination of tools and methodologies for documenting and studying language contact in progress.
