About the Role:
The position sits within the School’s Healthy Communities and Social Futures cluster, comprising the disciplines of Linguistics, Speech Pathology, and Social Work, providing opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across those disciplines and beyond within the School, Faculty and University. The Discipline of Linguistics is a recognised leader in Applied Linguistics through its Masters of Applied Linguistics and Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics in the established area of TESOL, and Masters of Applied Linguistics in the emerging area of endangered languages maintenance and revitalization, as well as in General Linguistics through its Endangered Languages Documentation, Theory and Application Research Program with a focus on Indigenous languages and communities of Australia and the Pacific.

This unique combination of education, research and innovation across the spectrum of Humanities and Social Science professions will drive informed change through quality education that contributes to the economic, social and cultural transformation of our region, and provides career opportunities for graduates.

About You:
You will have the capacity and experience to lead the execution of the School/Faculty research strategy and ensure the strategic alignment of research activities with the University’s Strategic Plan and deliver maximum impact for the University.

The ability to maintain a record of high-quality research productivity to build the University’s reputation for world-class innovation across the Humanities and Social Science is imperative and also to maintain an established national and international profile in the areas of Applied Linguistics and General Linguistics.

You will demonstrate educational leadership in Teaching and Learning at the course level and contribute to the program level in the Masters in Applied Linguistics and Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics, linguistics major within the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Science, and service teaching within the Disciplines of Speech Pathology and Education.

The position requires developing solutions to complex problems. Problem solving in relation to governance is guided by well-established policies and procedures, guidance is also available from the Head of School.

Essential Criteria:
- A PhD in Applied Linguistics or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated significant contribution, as evidenced through a strong track record, to research, including evidence of national and international research collaborations and industry partnerships, generation of quality publications and external research funding.
- Demonstrated innovation in teaching encompassing contemporary digital and online mediums and collaborative/interdisciplinary and interactive approaches to teaching and curriculum development and the ability to undertake program convening and/or cluster leadership and course coordination.

Academic Level D - from $140,644 pa base plus contributory superannuation with Unisuper, attracting a generous employer contribution of 17%.
