The Department of World Languages, Literatures, & Linguistics at West Virginia University ( invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Linguistics/TESOL beginning August 2019. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate classes in Applied Linguistics/TESOL with a typical teaching load of 2-3, as well as an active research agenda.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Applied Linguistics, Second Language Studies, or a closely related field by the time of appointment (ABDs with a clear graduation trajectory prior to the start date are welcome to apply); expertise in appropriate research methods; excellent teaching skills and university-level teaching ability; abilities in course and program development, including online course development; ability to maintain an active research program; and excellent communication skills in English with experience in at least one additional language.

The department offers M.A. degree programs in Spanish, Linguistics, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), enrolling approximately 60-70 full-time graduate students from around the world, with the majority of those holding teaching assistantships. We also offer B.A.s and minors in a range of programs, including French, German, Spanish, Chinese Studies, Italian Studies, Latin American Studies, Russian Studies, and Slavic and East European Studies. Additionally, we offer minors in Foreign Literature/Culture in Translation, Japanese Studies, Arabic Studies, Linguistics, and TESOL. Our faculty is actively engaged in education abroad programs, and we have a long history of collaborating with other WVU colleges, departments, and programs.
