Linguistics Department invites you to apply to the Humanities Emerging Research
Scholars (MICHHERS) program
. This all expenses paid program will bring talented undergraduate and MA
students to Ann Arbor for a 14-day workshop to help you prepare to apply to a PhD in
Linguistics, and to give you an overview of the opportunities and resources
available for students at the University of Michigan, including Linguistics. You
will meet with faculty and PhD students to talk about research in linguistics, and
will have the opportunity to work on your own research project under the guidance of
U-M Linguistics faculty and current PhD students. The event will also include a
graduate application workshop and social gatherings with faculty and current
graduate students from Linguistics and other disciplines.
Level: No Minimum
Special Qualifications: Rising seniors, bachelor’s degree
holders, and those currently in M.A. programs, particularly those from backgrounds
traditionally underrepresented in graduate education who are planning on pursuing a
Ph.D. in Linguistics. Application open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents or
non-U.S. citizens with DACA.

Selected applicants will receive a $1,000 stipend for their participation in the
