The Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics and Intercultural Communication at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Spanish and Linguistics. Teaching responsibilities include Spanish linguistics courses as well as general linguistics courses focusing on language and cognition and language acquisition. A background in sociolinguistics and dialectology is a plus. The teaching load is five courses per year. The candidate’s research should complement and enhance the department’s interdisciplinary curriculum.

UMBC’s Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics and Intercultural Communication, in addition to offering instruction in a broad range of languages, has a long history of training students to examine cultural differences, to understand their nature and implications, and to apply their linguistic and intercultural talents and skills in advancing cultural and ethnic diversity and social responsibility. With its renewed emphasis on intercultural issues and conflicts, MLLI has become one of the primary academic departments at UMBC dedicated to innovative approaches to linguistic, cultural, and economic diversity and social justice.
