Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University. The position will be available July 1, 2019. We seek an internationally recognized researcher with a history of skillful interdisciplinary leadership and an inspiring vision for the Department. The successful candidate will serve as advocate for the Department to the College, University, and larger community.
The successful candidate will be an academic leader and scholar with a commitment to the research, clinical, and teaching missions of the Department. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, have scholarly credentials commensurate with the rank of Tenured Full Professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and have expertise in one of the department’s subject areas and have a program of publication in this field. Furthermore, the candidate must be able to contribute to the research portfolio of the department. Desirable attributes include a strong record of published research and external funding as well as prior experience in academic and clinical program administration and program development. The successful candidate must also value and promote diversity.
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is a diverse and collegial department with 22 research/tenure track faculty and 15 clinical faculty members. Research areas represented in the Department include: Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Linguistics, Neuroscience, and Speech & Hearing Sciences. The Department houses a thriving interdisciplinary community, including ongoing collaborations with other departments (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Psychological Sciences) and programs/centers (e.g., Linguistics, Institute for Integrative Neuroscience, Center on Aging and the Life Course, Purdue Autism Cluster, Center for Research on Brain, Behavior, and NeuroRehabilitation, and Ray W. Herrick Acoustic Laboratories). Faculty lead two interdisciplinary NIH training grants in Communication Disorders and in Auditory Neuroscience. The Department has accredited and highly ranked clinical programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. It awards Bachelors, Masters, Au.D., and Ph.D. degrees.
