The Department of Education wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Language Education to contribute to teaching on the department’s language education programmes. This position is available at Lecturer level on either an Academic, Research & Teaching (ART) contract or on a Teaching & Scholarship (T&S) contract.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for candidates with a track record of high quality teaching and a commitment to excellence in teaching, supervision and citizenship to contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The new Lecturer will be responsible for the leadership and development of the highly successful MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

The main responsibilities of the post include:
- Designing, developing and delivering teaching across a wide range of modules and/or within a particular programme or subject area.
- Programme leadership for the MA TESOL.
- Undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities effectively.

We are particularly interested in candidates with research interests related to the broad area of TESOL. Example specialisms might include areas such as testing/assessment, teacher cognition, teacher development and training, computer assisted language learning, vocabulary/grammar learning and teaching, programme evaluation, instructed second language acquisition, classroom communication.

Lecturer (Academic, Research & Teaching):
Candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent experience in the field of education, language education or a related discipline with a developing track record of research expertise in an area that will complement and enhance the Department’s research strategy and goals. Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level is essential, as is the ability to supervise students at Masters and doctoral level and to provide programme leadership to the MA TESOL.

Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship):
Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level is essential, as is the ability to supervise students at Masters and doctoral level and to provide programme leadership to the MA TESOL. You will have specialist expertise in the broad area of TESOL and knowledge of a range of teaching techniques and methodologies to enthuse and engage students. A postgraduate degree in language education or related discipline or equivalent experience is essential and a PhD in education, language education or a relevant discipline is desirable.
