Meeting Description:
SinFonIJA 11 thematic session 2: Theoretical linguistics within cognitive science:
current research directions
There is no doubt that attempts to make direct
connections between linguistic concepts and work done in fields such as cognitive
neuroscience, computational modeling, and evolutionary and comparative biology are
important and potentially fruitful, but they also face a number of conceptual and
methodological issues. To turn the spotlight on the bidirectional connection between
linguistic theory and cognitive science and the possibilities of progress that can
be made based on collaborative work, the Theoretical linguistics within cognitive
science: current research directions session will focus on the following issues:
- The contributions which linguistics can make to the development of other
fields within cognitive science
- The ways in which non-linguistic enterprises
can inform linguistic theory
- Theoretical considerations
- Methodological
issues
- Concrete cases of fruitful interaction
- Working proposals for
research interaction
The keynote and participant presentations related to
this theme will be complemented by a round table discussion on Saturday, October 13,
2018.
