Meeting Description:
Language Education and
Emotions, the Third International Conference on Language Education and Testing,
addresses a wide range of topics relating to affective factors in language teaching
and learning.
Language Education and Emotions, the Third International
Conference on Language Education and Testing will be held at Antwerp University
(Belgium), from 26 to 28 November 2018. Its aim is to bring together scholars from
all over the world to share their interest in the role and place of emotions in
language learning and teaching.
The conference will provide an overview of
the scientific status quo in the field of Language Education and Emotions. Secondly,
it will identify the challenges our research is confronted with. This will allow us
to build a research agenda for the future.
Language Education and Emotions
will address a wide range of topics relating to affective factors in language
teaching and learning, centering on:
- Emotions and the Language Learner:
e.g. foreign language anxiety, self-esteem, motivation, willingness to communicate,
inhibition, autonomy
- Emotions and the Language Teacher: e.g. self-efficacy,
motivation, empathy
- Emotions and the Teaching and Learning Process: e.g.
language teaching methods, approaches in language teaching, learning materials/
tools, CALL, evaluation
The keynote speakers at the conference are:
- Jane Arnold Morgan (University of Seville; author of Affect in Language
Learning)
- Jean-Marc Dewaele (Birkbeck, University of London; author of
Emotions in Multiple Languages)
- One paper will be selected as plenary
presentation
Call for Papers:
Your submission (in English) should
consist of a one page abstract (500 words, without references). Please use the
template provided (
https://www.uantwerpen.be/en/conferences/language-education-and-emotions/programme/call-for-papers/call-for-papers/).
Your paper must address one (or several) of the main topics of the
conference:
- Emotions and the Language Learner (i.e. motivation, FLA,
willingness to communicate, autonomy)
- Emotions and the Language Teacher (i.e.
self-efficacy, motivation, empathy)
- Emotions and the Teaching and Learning
Process (i.e. language teaching methods, tools, evaluation)
Elements to be
included in the abstract:
- Rationale
- Theoretical framework
-
Research design
- Results (if possible)
- Conclusion
- Discussion
Please indicate the presentation type you prefer:
- Paper presentation:
20' presentation, followed by 5' for questions and discussion
- Poster
presentation: the conference schedule reserves a specific session (approximately 1
hour) dedicated to poster presentations allowing all to attend

objective of the conference is not only to provide an overview of the scientific
status quo in the field of Language Education and Emotions but also to identify
challenges the research into this field is confronted with, please tell us about
your opinion on these challenges.
