Meeting Description:
Research on valency and constructions in a broad sense (including e.g. phrases, collocations, and idioms) involves different linguistic areas, including lexicography, syntax, and semantics. Dictionaries tend to be word-specific, but most ordinary dictionaries also take combinatory patterns into account. Frequently discussed issues include whether (semantic and syntactic) valency is an item-specific property of a lexical unit or if it can be attributed to more general form-function structures, for example argument-structure constructions (or both).
The aim of the workshop is to bring together scholars who are interested in valency and construction issues. Research perspectives include (but are not restricted to) lexicography, frame semantics, phraseology, second-language acquisition, cognitive linguistics, language technology, and corpus linguistics.
