Required
Qualifications: (As evidenced by an attached resume)
- Doctoral Degree (Foreign equivalent or higher
degree) in Iranian Languages, Linguistics or a related fields in hand by June 1, 2019.
- Knowledge
of current practices/research in Iranian Languages, Linguistics or a related field.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Near native speaker fluency in one of the Caspian languages. A record of research
in one of the Caspian languages.
- Knowledge of Persian language and Iranian Linguistics.

Strong record of publication in Linguistics.
- Documented teaching excellence. Knowledge of, or
familiarity with, Northwestern Iranian language.
- Specialization in one of more of Syntax,
Phonology or Morphology.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali
Postdoctoral Associate in Endangered Iranian Languages will assist the Principal Investigator,
Richard Larson, in the department of Linguistics. The incumbent will conduct research in Caspian
languages and ensure that the research objectives are appropriately conducted following the policies and
procedures of Stony Brook University. The research objective for the term of employment is to develop a
grammar of one of the Caspian Languages with the support and mentorship/assistance of faculty from the
Stony Brook Department of Linguistics.
The successful incumbent will have excellent
interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional
attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a
team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Within the predetermined research scope
and methodology, conduct research in Caspian languages and construction of a Caspian language grammar.
Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in
related field to analyze the collected data.
Participate/assist in manuscript writing for
publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
Teach one
undergraduate course per year in the Department of Linguistics
Other duties as assigned, which may
include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
