Description:
The Department of Linguistics in the College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for an anticipated one-semester Visiting
Professor in Syntax (Associate or Full) with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019 or January 1,
2020.
This position carries a teaching load of two courses, as well as advising and other
responsibilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective
instruction at the undergraduate level and to the mentoring of students in their professional
development. The successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of
under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning
experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and
contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning
styles and intellectual interests.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent)
in Linguistics or a related field; evidence of a strong research/publication record; ability to teach
effectively at the graduate and undergraduate level; and active research interests integrating well with
those of the Department’s current faculty members.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of
excellence in research; a research profile that expands the linguistic and/or methodological diversity
of the department; expertise in another area of linguistics; evidence of excellence in teaching and
advising; ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity
and excellence of the learning experience.
Appointment Terms:
This is a full-time,
non-tenure track appointment for one-semester at the (associate) professor level. Salary is competitive
and rank and salary are based on qualifications and professional experience. The successful candidate’s
primary academic appointment will be at the UConn Storrs campus.
