The Departments of Linguistics and Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invite applicants to apply to the Dual Graduate (MA-PhD) Track in Hispanic Linguistics for the 2020-2021 academic year. This is a 5-year program in which students work towards an MA in Linguistics with concentration in Hispanic Linguistics, and subsequently a PhD in Romance Studies with concentration in Hispanic Linguistics.

Hispanic Linguistics is the study of the linguistics of Spanish and of languages related to or in contact with Spanish. This includes the syntax, semantics, morphology, phonetics, phonology, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, language acquisition, and psycholinguistics of Spanish, Portuguese, Basque, Guarani, Maya, Latin, and others.

MA students will be housed in the Linguistics Department and PhD students’ administrative home will be the Department of Romance Studies. Students will complete coursework and will have the opportunity to teach, conduct research, and work with faculty in both departments. Admitted students will receive support in the form of RA-ships and TA-ships in either or both departments.

Located in the Research Triangle of North Carolina, UNC Chapel Hill is convenient to other prominent universities in the area (Duke University, North Carolina State University) as well as much of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern United States.
