Job Title: Postdoctoral Researcher

Job Rank: Post Doc

Specialty Areas: Phonetics; Computational Modeling

A postdoctoral researcher position is available at Saarland University, Dept. of Language Science and Technology, in the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center "Information Density and Linguistic Encoding" (SFB 1102). SFB 1102 is a large and varied Research Center that includes 16 research projects in the areas of computational linguistics, psycholinguistics, theoretical linguistics, and phonetics.

The aim of this postdoctoral research position is to contribute to project C1 of SFB 1102, entitled "Information density and the predictability of phonetic structure", for the period 2/2020-6/2022. The project is concerned with the relation between information density (ID) and phonetic encoding. Specifically, one of the aims is to study interactions between the prosodic hierarchy and the ID profile of utterances. Another aim is to investigate the effects of channel characteristics and listener orientation on speakers' productions, complemented by an analysis of listeners' exploitation of the predicted enhancements that speakers implement. The opportunity for scientific training is given.

This position will require an individual with expertise in experimental phonetics and computational modelling of spoken language processes. You are expected to have a PhD in experimental phonetics, speech science, spoken language processing, computational linguistics, or a similar field. (Note that the position requires a doctoral degree, but applications by people who have not yet finished their degree by the time but will have submitted their thesis by the starting date or shortly thereafter, are encouraged).

Details on the project and position as well as instructions for applications are available under Reference number W1622 at
