Meeting Description:
The Lexicology of English and of Languages for Specific Purposes Research
Group (LexEsp) is pleased to announce its VI International Seminar on English and ESP Lexicology and Lexicography to be held at the University of Alicante (Spain) on May 7-8, 2020. This Seminar will focus on the language of Tourism, sports and outdoor leisure activities.
The concept of tourism and all the leisure activities that complement a vacation stay has undergone dramatic transformations as a consequence of social, economic and political forces in recent years. Tourism no longer refers to seasonal vacations but has widened its spectrum due to several factors such as, for instance, globalization, the creation of the Internet and social networks and the improvement of new technologies. This has resulted in developments in transport and facilities (e.g. disability access, sustainable tourism, culturally sensitive tourism, etc.), Internet sharing experience websites and apps (e.g. YouTube, IG, Twitter, TripAdvisor, etc.), task-oriented tourism (e.g. business, educational, health, religion, culture, music and cinema festivals, etc.), outdoor
leisure activities (hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, etc.), and new accommodation websites and apps, amongst others.
As the notion of tourism and leisure has evolved, so has the specific language that structures every professional sector. As with any other specialized language, neologisms, new genres, phraseology, etc. have emerged which still require scientific analyses. That and the language of sports are the focus of the VI International Seminar on English and ESP Lexicology and Lexicography.
