Description:

The Pomona College Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science is hiring a one-year visiting assistant professor of linguistics for academic year 2020-2021. Candidates must have a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment, and those with significant teaching experience are especially encouraged to apply. We are looking for a linguist who uses computational/corpus-based methodologies; they will teach Corpus Linguistics, multiple Introduction to Linguistics sections, and another course in their area of expertise. We are open to linguists of any area/subfield, as long as they are prepared to teach courses on corpus-based (computational) methods. The successful candidate will also be expected to consult on senior research projects. The teaching load is 2 courses in Fall semester and 3 courses in Spring semester (5 courses total for the year).

To apply, please send a letter of interest (i.e., a cover letter), curriculum vitae, graduate transcript (an unofficial transcript is acceptable), recent teaching evaluations, and names and contact information of three references via email to: Elizabeth Contreras (email for applications below). Please direct any questions you have to the Chair of Linguistics and Cognitive Science, Michael Diercks (michael.dierckspomona.edu).

Pomona College and the Linguistics and Cognitive Science Department support equal access to higher education. Fifty-two percent of our current cohort of first-year students (class of 2023) self-identify as domestic students of color, 11% are international, and 19% are first-generation college students. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach and mentor exceptional students of diverse backgrounds using pedagogical practices that are rigorous and inclusive, and which promote academic equity.

See http://lcs.pomona.edu/ for more information about our department. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; review of applications will begin on April 15. This position is not eligible for travel and moving expenses, nor visa sponsorship.
