While there is plenty of work on second/foreign language speech acquisition by speakers with widely spoken native languages (e.g., English, Japanese, Mandarin), research on speakers with native languages that count hundreds, thousands, or a few millions of speakers is only scarce.
We are pleased to announce a special edited volume titled “Second/foreign language speech perception and production by speakers with underrepresented native languages”, which will be published by De Gruyter Publishing House.
This edited volume will focus on the investigation of second/foreign language speech perception and production patterns of speakers with underrepresented native languages (approximately less than 10 million native speakers). The linguistic contexts can vary from traditional monolingual to special contexts such as bidialectal or bilingual. The approach should be experimental in nature and the study can employ various methodological tools. The discussion should make conclusions on the interplay between native and second/foreign language and designate the interface between phonetics and phonology within the speakers’ speech acquisition patterns. Interdiscriplinary topics are also welcome.
We invite you to submit your chapter abstract (250-300 words) by September 30, 2020. The abstract will be evaluated and the notification of acceptance/rejection will be sent to the authors by October 2020.
You can send your abstract to the editor at georgiou.georgos
