The Department of Linguistics at Yale University invites applications for a part-time benefits-eligible Lector in American Sign Language to begin August 1, 2020, conditional upon final financial approval. The initial appointment will run for one semester and is potentially renewable. The Lector will offer two sections of American Sign Language 1, or provide an equivalent amount of courses and service, in the fall semester. As all language courses at Yale will be conducted remotely during Fall 2020, relocation to New Haven is not required at this time.

The successful applicant will have experience in teaching ASL in an academic setting, will have native or near-native proficiency in ASL, and will have excellent command of written English. Preferred qualifications include training in language pedagogy and an MA or PhD in ASL, Deaf studies, language teaching, linguistics or a related field.
