The University of Bern offers a Lectureship in Language and Linguistics in the Department of English (initially from 1st February 2022 to 31st December 2022).
The tasks of the successful applicant will be:
- To teach 4 courses (8 hours of teaching) per semester at BA and MA levels in English Linguistics (e.g. English phonology, morphology and syntax), including the teaching of the compulsory BA Introduction to Linguistics lecture course;
- To assist in student support administration;
- To supervise student dissertations at BA and MA level.
Requirements:
The Department of English has a teaching and research focus in sociolinguistics and discourse studies, and the successful candidate will be expected to offer courses in the structure of English which are compatible with this overall objective. Academic requirements for this position are a completed PhD with a good publication record.
Although the language of teaching and administration in the Department is English, the language of the Faculty is German. Successful candidates should, as a minimum, commit to acquiring a good working knowledge of German within two years of taking up their post.
The successful applicant will receive a salary on scale 23 or 25 of the Bernese Cantonal pay scale. Scale and position on the scale are determined on the basis of age and experience. The bottom step of Scale 23 is CHF103,000 (US$112,000, GB£86,500) per annum for 100% positions, the top of Scale 25 is CHF182,000 (US$197,000, GB£153,000) for 100% positions.
