Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics

Meeting Description:

This year, the Department of Linguistics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will be offering a special virtual version of its annual Sneak Peek event. Santa Barbara Sneak Peek is intended to create a pathway into UCSB’s graduate program for excellent potential graduate applicants from underrepresented groups. Santa Barbara Sneak Peek events will be held beginning on October 6.

The University of California recognizes the variety of personal experiences, values and worldviews that arise from differences of culture and circumstance. Such diversity in the UC student body is integral to the University's achievement of excellence. Santa Barbara Sneak Peek is aimed at graduate students who bring an understanding of the experiences of groups historically underrepresented in higher education, including but not limited to those who have been minoritized on the basis of race/ethnicity, gender identity, disability, and/or socioeconomic background. We encourage participation from individuals who meet the eligibility criteria and represent cultural, linguistic, geographic, and socioeconomic backgrounds not adequately represented in the graduate student population.

Participants in Santa Barbara Sneak Peek will:
- Learn about academic and research opportunities in linguistics at UCSB
- Hear from faculty and graduate students about their current research projects
- Hear from current linguistics graduate students about the graduate program, the university, and the community of Santa Barbara
- Learn how to create a strong graduate school application

Registration is free and is required for all participants. Registration covers the full series of events: https://forms.gle/ebvbu189GsYNCHfX7

Registration is open until full; advance registration by Monday, Oct. 5 is preferred.
