Job Rank: Consultant
Specialty Areas: Computational Linguistics; Text/Corpus Linguistics; Data Management
Description:
With the launch of a new National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) Evolving Language, which involves nearly 40 different research groups from a large variety of disciplines across Switzerland, we seek to fill a permanent position as data aggregator / data manager at the University of Zurich.
The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and aggregating existing data sources (including data scattered across published literature and repositories) and support scientists in accessing these sources.
Responsibilities also include the design and implementation of systems and protocols for (i) data management and long-term archiving and (ii) fair use and avoidance of (hidden) biases in the data (e.g. gender biases). The successful candidate will join a data science task force at the NCCR's headquarter in Zurich in co-affiliation with the University of Zurich's Technology Platform LiRI (Linguistic Research Infrastructure). The task force will work intensively with researchers across the entire network of the NCCR and so the members of the task force are expected to also spend time in the various labs of the network (conditions permitting). The task force will actively collaborate with data science platforms at the ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne (e.g. the Swiss Data Science Centre) as well as with partners in industry (e.g. the Google Research Natural Language Processing Group in Zurich).
The ideal candidate has a PhD degree in language science and/or data management and is able to quickly familiarize himself/herself with relevant publications in various branches of biology and neuroscience. The NCCR places great emphasis on teamwork and on multidisciplinary perspectives. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential.
We offer varied and interesting work in an inspiring and socially relevant environment. Diversity and inclusion are important to us. The NCCR places great emphasis on gender balance; we particularly encourage women to apply.
