Subject: De Gruyter Mouton acquires the Linguistics Journal Phonetica
E-mail this message to a friend De Gruyter Mouton has acquired the phonetic science journal Phonetica from Karger publishers. The journal will become part of the De Gruyter portfolio as of 1 January 2021.
Phonetics is an interdisciplinary field with ties to linguistics, anatomy, physiology, neurology, physics and mathematics. The journal Phonetica was founded by Eberhard Zwirner, a pioneer of modern Quantitative Linguistics, which involves the application of mathematical and statistical methods to linguistic research. The journal has been published in English by the health sciences publisher Karger in Switzerland since its inception in 1957.
With a rich archive of 77 volumes of published content, Phonetica currently publishes 6 issues and approximately 20 peer-reviewed research articles each year, covering everything from theory to empirical data and innovative methods and applications. As part of the linguistics program at Mouton, Phonetica will benefit greatly from being placed within its full scientific context for the very first time at De Gruyter. Thematic synergies across the entire Mouton program – particularly e.g. from the areas of language description, language acquisition and sociolinguistics – will allow us unique opportunities for acquiring new contributors to the journal, enabling us to grow research article output and thereby enhance the journal’s value for both its readers and subscribers moving forward. The journal also provides Mouton with a new forum for expansion into exciting and innovative neighboring fields, such as speech technology and neuroscience.
