Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, invites applications for a new full-time, tenure-track position, beginning August 29, 2022. Candidates either at the assistant or associate professor level will receive equally strong consideration for hire, as will candidates who are currently completing their PhD (PhD degree must be awarded before the start of the appointment). We seek outstanding applicants whose research and scholarship in linguistics address or contribute to social justice and anti-racism. The specific subfield of specialization in linguistics is open.

The successful candidate will build on existing strengths in the department and is expected to teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in linguistics, in particular regarding theories and research methods relevant for the subfield(s) of specialization of the candidate, and regarding how linguistics can address systems of discrimination. Applicants should give indication of a productive research publication record and show potential for long-term external funding support of their research program. We strongly encourage applications from candidates interested in developing and teaching courses that examine minoritized language varieties and their users, for instance the language varieties found in African American communities.

Applicants are expected to submit:

- a curriculum vitae
- a statement of current and future research plans
- a statement of teaching philosophy and experience
- evidence of teaching excellence
- a diversity statement demonstrating commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through scholarship/research, and/or teaching/mentoring, and/or service/engagement.
- up to three representative publications or other writings
- contact information for three recommenders. Recommenders for an initial shortlist of applicants will be contacted later to submit recommendations online.

Applications should be submitted to the application link below.

Review of dossiers will begin on October 31; applications received after October 31 may not receive full consideration.
