Online Realization via Zoom

Following the success of the 2018 conference, the research group Eln (Online Language Teaching) at Universidade Aberta, in collaboration with the Humanities Department and the Distance Learning Laboratory (LED), will be hosting its Second International Conference on Innovation and Technology in Language Teaching on November 29-30 and December 2-3, 2021.

The conference aims to gather researchers, teachers, and students in the field of language teaching to address issues related to language learning and acquisition, with a focus on technological and digital innovation in virtual, b-learning and face-to-face environments.

We look forward to a joint reflection on teaching, language acquisition and learning, on the impact of technology and on the sharing of perspectives, practices and experiences in diverse educational contexts. Through this open debate we hope to raise interest and contribute to the ongoing research on innovation and the development of pedagogical skills in language teaching in the classroom and online.

Call for Papers:

The conference welcomes proposals on the following lines of inquiry:

1. Innovative pedagogies in language teaching: augmented reality; m-learning; e-learning; b-learning; teaching in virtual environments or b-learning; gamification.
2. Teaching practice in the classroom (virtual, b-learning, traditional): classroom dynamics, teacher-student interaction; assessment; knowledge and skills acquisition; methodologies.
3. Development and use of digital resources: applications; software for language learning; online teaching platforms; tools; Moocs; developing or adapting digital materials and textbooks.

Please send proposals (250 - 300 words) for papers or workshops in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish or German, with name, email, affiliation and bionote (maximum 100 words) by September 15, 2021 to

Workshops will have a duration of 45 minutes and can be in the format of open class, practical demonstration of resources and tools, creation of activities or online practices, among others. Proposals must contain a description of the objectives and topics which will be covered.

Papers are 20 minutes long, followed by a 10 minute discussion, and should focus on the theory and practice of the teaching and learning process, with a focus on the demonstration of results.

A selection papers presented at the conference will be peer-reviewed and published in an e-book.

Deadline for submission of proposals: 15 September 2021
Notification of acceptance: 15 October 2021
Deadline for registration: 1 November 2021

Registration is free but compulsory for everyone (with or without presentation)
