Researcher in project "Modelling the question-statement opposition in Slavic languages (QueSlav)"
Funding: 65% E13 TV-L (2488-3694€, depending on experience) fixed-term 36 months.
Tasks include research and scientific services within the cooperative project QueSlav (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin/Charles University, Prague), funded by the German and the Czech Research Foundations (DFG/GAČR) – cf.
https://hu.berlin/queslav – with a focus on Polish. Further qualification (publications, partly joint; work towards the completion of a PhD thesis) is explicitly supported and expected.
The project investigates strategies of marking polar (“yes/no”-) questions (syntax, particles, prosody) with and without bias in Czech, Polish and Russian. Empirical (corpus) linguistic studies and psycholinguistic experiments (rating, eye-tracking), independently and in cooperation with primary investigators (Berlin: Roland Meyer, Prague: Radek Šimík). The position is based in Berlin.
Requirements:
- M.A. (or equivalent) in Slavic Linguistics, General Linguistics or a related discipline;
- Excellent knowledge of Polish (C1 or native);
- Basic knowledge of Czech and/or Russian or willingness to acquire it;
- Interest in comparative work on Polish/Czech/Russian;
- Solid understanding of linguistic theories, ideally with a focus on semantics and/or pragmatics;
- Experience with corpus linguistic and/or experimental work is desirable.
