Focus: This annual summer school explores how cultural and linguistic diversity is at the base of social, economic and educational inequalities. This here the focus in on Diversity in Education. After this school students will be able to: - Assess current debates about the diversity in education - Evaluate policies for diversity management in education - Appraise recent research on diversity in education - Argue for the relevance and feasibility of research projects on diversity in education in a way that testifies of informed critical thinking The summer school will consist of lectures, workshops, a roundtable and a symposium. There are also several sessions where participants can present their own work. Special guest this year is our non-academic partner LOWAN ( Marieke Postma & colleagues will present current challenges in the education of newcomers in Leeuwarden, and lecturers and participants will work together on the case studies presented (e.g. on specific issues in educational and policy design). Confirmed lecturers (so far): Janet Fuller (RUG, Linguistic diversity in education) and Marjolein Deunk (RUG, Inclusion and exclusion in education) will provide introductory lectures. Special Qualifications: This is a Graduate School for MA, PhD, Post-docs. BA students should make sure a personal letter of recommendation is sent to our email address (before April 30): We especially welcome the participations of teachers and practitioners in the field of policy design and diversity management.

This year's theme is Diversity in Education and the summer school is organized in a hybrid form online and in Leeuwarden (if Covid-19 restrictions allow), 27 June - 2 July 2021. This School should be of interest to students (BA, MA & PhD) and early career researchers with an interest in diversity in education, as well as educational policy makers, teachers, and other professionals working in education. A week-long programme on cultural and linguistic diversity in education, both in theory and as empirical reality, and both in formal and informal education coordinated by the staff of the programs:
