Description:
PhD Position (f/m/d): Dynamic modelling of prosodic prominence
The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1252 on “Prominence in Language” investigates prominence with respect to prosody, morphosyntax and semantics as well as discourse structure in a large variety of languages from more than a dozen major language families and linguistic areas worldwide. It uses different experimental techniques in the area of communication and cognition. All members take full benefit of the Centre’s joint research and training facilities. Within the framework of the CRC 1252, the project A04 “Dynamic modelling of prosodic prominence” searches for a doctoral candidate. The project uses a 3D Electromagnetic Articulograph (3D-EMA twin system) and acoustic recordings to develop a multidimensional dynamical model of prosodic prominence.
Your Tasks:
- designing, conducting and evaluating articulographic and acoustic experiments (EMA twin system to record dialogues)
- statistical modeling of experimental data
- modeling of speech data in a dynamical framework (task dynamics)
- collaborating with project scientists in the project and the CRC
- presenting the results of the work in international conferences and publications
Your Profile:
- you have a Master degree in a linguistics, phonetics, cognitive science, computer science or a related field
- you have experience with acoustic and/or articulatory data analysis
- you are highly proficient in English (proficiency in German is an advantage)
- you have basic programming skills (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB) and the motivation to strengthen your skills in the first few months of the contract
- you have experience with statistical data analysis
- you are interested in research experience on an international level
We Offer You:
- an exciting, interactive and supportive research environment
- continuous training in the field of speech production and dynamical modeling of speech data
- a diverse and fair working environment
- support in reconciling work and family life
- flexible working time models
- extensive advanced training opportunities
- occupational health management offers
- local transport ticket at a discount for UoC employees
- opportunity for remote work
