Call for chapter proposals for an edited volume

The volume Radical Bilingualism and its translation in film and TV series will provide an innovative overview of interdisciplinary perspectives on the use of Spanish and English and their in-betweens in contemporary audiovisual texts. Central to this volume is the connection between language use and the US Latinx community. In this volume we consider terminology like code-switching, language mixing, Spanglish, translanguaging and heteroglossia with an interest in fostering a more cohesive understanding of the bilingual language use of global Latinx communities as portrayed in film and TV series. The central aim of this book is to examine language mixing and its translation focusing on the use of interdisciplinary theories to highlight current research in this newly emerging field. The volume seeks to bring together linguistics, cultural and translation studies as they intersect with Latinx studies.
Organization
The book is currently under consideration with Routledge.. Each contribution will be peer-reviewed by at least one external and one internal reviewer. At least one review will represent a perspective from a different research community. Reviews will be double-blind in the first round. Upon acceptance of the contribution, however, reviewers will be invited to publish a short commentary on the basis of their review, which will be published together with the article under their name. This way, we hope that both the process of making the book as well as the book itself will foster dialogue among participating researchers.
Invitation for contributions
We invite researchers interested in contributing to submit a short abstract (300 words max., excluding references) to the contact emails below. Please also indicate the section of the volume (cf. above) in which you would like to see your article, and five keywords.
Deadline for the submission of abstracts: March 15, 2023
Notification of acceptance: May 1, 2023
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit a full manuscript by October 1st, 2023. Decisions on the final acceptance of manuscripts will be based on the outcome of the peer review process.
