Fellowship in the Humanities. One-year post-doctoral 
teaching-research fellowship for the 1998-9 academic year. Ph.D. in 
Linguistics or Philosophy, with background or interest in the other 
field; all requirements for the Ph.D. degree must be completed 
before 1 July 1998, and the Ph.D. degree must have been granted no 
earlier than September 1991. Two courses per year. No 
administrative obligations. Stipend $32,000 + fringe benefits. 
Area of specialization: formal semantics, or philosophy of language 
with research emphasis on issues of interest to linguists. 
Deadline for application: February 1, 1998. Applicants wishing to 
be considered for an interview at the APA or LSA meetings should 
submit application materials by mid-December. Applications should 
include a letter of application, a c.v., three or more letters of

The University of Hertfordshire (UK) seeks to appoint an established
scholar to the Linguistics group within the Faculty of Humanities,
Languages and Education.

Minimum requirements for this post are:

- a good honours degree and a doctorate in Linguistics
- a strong record of publication in a field cognate to existing areas
 of expertise in the Linguistics Group
- evidence of successful grant applications for research funding
- experience of successful teaching in higher education at both 
 undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Among other duties, the successful applicant will be expected to

- play a major role in the development and leadership of research in
 the Linguistics Group in the run-up to the next Research Assessment 
- take responsibility for the direction of a new research centre,
 the Centre for Child Language, which is currently being established
 in the Linguistics Group
- seek to attract external funding for research
- make a substantial contribution to the Master's degree in Child

Stockholm University invites applications for a position as Professor
in Phonetics at the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Liberal

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, with a population of over one and a
half million inhabitants, is a major cultural and scientific center.

When appointing a professor of the state university system of Sweden,
special emphasis is given to both research competence and teaching
competence. Consideration is also given to administrative skills, in
particular leadership ability. Proficiency in Swedish (Scandinavian)
or English is necessary. Wherever appropriate, a willingness to learn
Swedish is assumed.

Salary is negotiable. The University is an Equal Opportunities
employer, and since most professors at the Faculty of Liberal Arts are
men, applications from female candidates are particularly
welcome. Since the position is a full-time job, residence in the
Stockholm area is necessary.
