Senior Software Engineer - Voice User Interface (VUI)
General Magic is expanding our team of VUI developers to take on new
projects. You will have the opportunity to work with industry experts
in speech recognition, text-to-speech synthesis, and voice user
interface design. Portico is the world's first second-generation
virtual assistant, incorporating General Magic's, Magic Talk tm
technology. Portico integrates email, voicemail, fax, paging,
telephone, calendar, contacts, notes and other content in a single
service accessible over the phone or via the web. Phone access uses
advanced natural speech recognition and requires no special equipment
and//or memorization of jargonistic commands.
Job Responsibilities:
In this position you will design and develop new voice user interface
(VUI) applications which allow telephone access to data such as email,
voicemail, contacts, and other content. You will also be responsible
for enhancements to the Portico service, performance analysis, and
changes to the application platform.
Requirements
Ten or more years of software development experience, including at
least three years of experience developing IVR or voice messaging
applications. Experience should include work on projects that
emphasized designing effective user interfaces and improving
usability, Strong written and oral communication skills, and strong
c++ programming skills on the Windows NT operating system are also
required.

SWARTHMORE COLLEGE/ ANDREW W. MELLON POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN THE
HUMANITIES: Swarthmore College seeks a phonologist beginning fall,
1999, with a strong background in all areas of core linguistics and
the ability to teach Historical and Comparative Linguistics. This is
a one-year postdoctoral position with possibility for renewal for a
second year. It will combine research with limited teaching duties.
Previous teaching experience is a plus. The Ph.D. must be in hand
before Sept. 1, 1999, and should have been received within the last
seven years. Send c.v., a one-page discussion of the classes you
would like to teach, a one-page discussion of the research you plan on
pursuing in the next couple of years, all publications, and a list of
