Responsibilities include teaching a balance of undergraduate and graduate courses with a typical load of one undergraduate Spanish language course in a culturally-oriented program and one SLA course at the undergraduate or graduate level each semester. Ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to undergraduate education, research interests at the graduate level, interdisciplinary interests beyond their own field of expertise, and enthusiasm for participating in a relatively new doctoral program in second language acquisition.

Requirements: Ph.D. in second language acquisition, applied linguistics, or a relevant area of linguistics; a strong publication and research record; and evidence of effective undergraduate teaching in Spanish. Applicants should possess native or near-native proficiency in Spanish

Procedure: Applicants should send a letter of application indicating any professional conferences that they plan to attend during Fall 1998, a curriculum vitae, copies of publications (not to be returned), and the names and addresses of three prospective references to Chair, SLA Search Committee, Department of Modern Languages, Baker Hall 160, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3890.
