"Buenos dias", "buenas noches" -- this was the first words in a foreign language I heard in my life, as a three-year old boy growing up in developing post-war Western Germany, where the first gastarbeiters had arrived from Spain. Fascinated by the strange sounds, I tried to get to know some more languages, the only opportunity being TV courses of English and French -- there was no foreign language education for pre-teen school children in Germany yet in those days. Job Description: The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a senior lecturer position in our division of Educational Linguistics. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in applied or anthropological linguistics or a related field with a clear specialization in intercultural communication. Ideal candidates will have background teaching educational linguistics and sociolinguistics, two required courses for all students in our division. In addition, we expect the successful candidate to provide a leadership role in the development of curricular coherency across the multiple sections of these required courses as well as work with divisional faculty to develop and support new courses and programs based on student interest and need in our TESOL, Intercultural Communication, and Educational Linguistics programs.

Senior Lecturer appointments are made for three years, are subject to reappointment review at three-year intervals, and may be renewed as long as academic needs persist.
