Financial Support:
Full-time students may receive some financial support in the form of Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) or Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs). Financial support includes tuition waivers and stipends. Graduate teaching assignments may include undergraduate Applied Linguistics courses and ESL courses. Some non-teaching fellowships are also available.

Description:

The Department of Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language at Georgia State University, one of the few departments of its kind in the United States, offers a PhD in applied linguistics. This program seeks to develop in the student a high level of competence in conducting basic and applied research and in university teaching. To accomplish these objectives, the program provides a rigorous and in-depth course of study emphasizing current theoretical knowledge as well as both quantitative and qualitative research methodology in applied linguistics.
