Founded in 1979, the journal publishes original pieces of research in all areas of language study. The journal in particular welcomes papers addressing analyses of modern languages from various fields of discipline including general linguistics (syntax, semantics, phonology, phonetics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, historical linguistics), computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, applied linguistics, and so forth.

The journal is published both in print and electronically and the language of publication is English and Korean.
