Abstract: The purpose of our paper is to emphasise a certain manner of deconstructing reality, or even an existing stereotypy at the level of French and Romanian languages, applying on a non-exhaustive corpus formed by idioms and collocations, which contain names of colours. The limitation of the maximum number of pages determines us to focus only on two colours –white and black. In French, we encounter the collocation “arme blanche”, whose Romanian equivalent is “armă albă” (‘knife’), or “col blanc” – “guler alb”, in Romanian (‘white collar’) naming the same reality, “office clerk”, “marché noir” – “piaţa neagră” in Romanian (‘black market’) which means “economic-financial area of illegal transactions and operations”, etc. Obviously, both languages contain idioms, which, if they were to be translated from one language to the other, would be meaningless…
