|Program Description:||Language and linguistics is taken at Aberdeen as part of a four- or five-year joint Honours (undergraduate) MA degree in combination with the following subjects: Anthropology, Celtic Civilization, Cultural History, Divinity, English, French Studies, Gaelic Studies, German Studies, Hispanic Studies, History, History of Art, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Sociology. We do not currently offer a single Honours programme in the subject. All students wishing to proceed to Honours level in Language & Linguistics (and also English) must pass the Level 1 'Essentials of Language' course. At Levels 2, 3 and 4 there are numerous course options available, many of which are in phonetics and sociolinguistics, but there are also courses in, for instance, historical linguistics, discourse analysis, multilingualism, and Scots language and literature.
We offer (postgraduate) MLitts in English Linguistics for Advanced Teachers of English (ELATE) and English Sociolinguistics, and we can supervise PhD research on a wide range of topics.
