|Institution:||Saint Mary's University|
|Address:||923 Robie Street|
|Contact Person:||Elissa Asp, Dr.|
|Program Size:||Medium (11-25 students)|
|Program Description:||Saint Mary’s University is the main site for the Halifax Interuniversity Linguistics Program, hosting the core courses for the program. We offer honours, majors and minors in linguistics in undergraduate degree programs, as well as a certificate program for students who already have a degree. Students enrolled in the linguistics program can also take classes from Dalhousie University and Mount Saint Vincent University to fulfil degree requirements.
An undergraduate degree in linguistics provides opportunities to study the formal, functional and systemic nature of language and languages as both social and cognitive phenomena. Linguistics has cognate relationships with a wide array of disciplines, suggested by the interdisciplinary nature of many of the courses in the program. Faculty members from Anthropology, English, French, German, Russian, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, and other disciplines participate.
