MuTra discusses modern translation tasks as they cut across the traditional interlingual,
intralingual and intersemiotic categories and typically integrate modern technologies in coping with
such challenges as cross-cultural knowledge management in LSP communication, transferring
linear to non-linear texts ('hypertext'), switching from spoken to written modes (subtitling) as well
as considering the accessibility to information for audiences such as the blind and hearing
impaired communities (audiodescription, written interpretation.
MuTra addresses the multiple (multilingual, multimedia, multimodal and polysemiotic)
dimensions of modern translation tasks and investigates the impact of modern technologies
on the form, content, structure and modes of translation and interpretation. It integrates
research in LSP communication & cross-cultural knowledge management, media translation
and interpretation (including subtitling for handicapped) as well as technical translation. Its
objective is (1) to identify and explore the interplay of these multiple dimensions relative to
the standards of coherence, information structuring, isotopic continuity and translation
methodologies and (2) to train young researchers in the respective research methods and
enhance their intercultural communication abilities and experience.
Papers are invited on the Theory & Methodology of Multidimensional Translation in its
cultural, media, and interpreting aspects.

The 19th edition of the 'Journées de linguistique' (JDL) will be held on March 7th and 8th, 2005 on
Laval University Campus. JDL is one of the most important student seminars in the field of
linguistics.

All those interested in attending this event must submit their presentation proposal by February
the 6th, 2005. The maximum duration for each presentation is 20 minutes. In addition, a question
period with the audience following each presentation (duration : ten minutes) is mandatory.
JDL allows graduate students and post-doctoral level researchers to present/expose their
work in three fields : language teaching, linguistics and translation. For the past 19 years,
JDL has given dozens of students the opportunity to bring their first presentation to public
attention, as well as allowing them to subsequently publish their first scholarly paper. Once
again this year, JDL's main goal will be to offer a multidisciplinary workshop. Both post-
doctoral students and scholars from the following departments : philosophy, anthropology,
psychology, sociology, communication, literature, linguistics, or any other department of
which the work pertains to a specific aspect of language studies, are invited to submit their
results.
All those interested in attending this event must submit their presentation proposal by
February the 6th, 2005. The maximum duration for each presentation is 20 minutes. In
addition, a question period with the audience following each presentation (duration : ten
minutes) is mandatory. Participants must promptly fill and send the form titled Proposition de
communication, attached to this document. We ask that at least the résumé is written also in
French, since it is published in the program. Please follow the form?s instructions thoroughly.
Presentation proposals will be examined by a review committee. Please include a $15 CDN
check payable to the 'Journées de linguistique'. The amount will cover registration and
administration fees.
Following the seminar, willing participants will be invited to write an article to be published
with the seminar proceedings. Although articles may be co-authored by students and
professors/supervisors, only students will be allowed to communicate their presentations to
the audience. Writing guidelines for articles will be provided to each participant during the
seminar.

be neatly drawn in black ink on the printout.
