The School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh invitesapplications for the post of researcher on the project 'Global Inferencefor Summarization Using Integer Linear Programming', funded by the EPSRC.This project will design and implement novel models for summarization thatbreak away from the sentence extraction paradigm. The overall aim is toutilize global inference algorithms for the summarization task anddemonstrate their superiority over traditional local optimization methods.

The position is suitable for a candidate with a PhD in Natural LanguageProcessing, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. Thesuccessful applicant will have strong programming skills and experiencewith natural language processing techniques and machine learning.Experience with summarization and/or optimization methods is alsodesirable. He or she will be responsible for developing summarizationmodels (both extractive and abstractive) within a global inferenceframework evaluation and for their evaluation. The starting date will be 01September 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter.
