Description:

Duties:

Provide linguistic support in the design and maintenance of name searchingalgorithms. Research specific name components and their cultural usage aswell as analyze a variety of user transliterations to determine patternswithin a large data set. Provide recommendations for name searchingtechniques based on cultural-specific tendencies. Work with programmers,testers and data quality team in evaluating user recommendations. May berequired to develop functional requirements for new linguistic namesearching algorithms. Will be asked to document analyses and designs inappropriate formats, such as Impact Analyses and Critical Design Documents.Must be able to develop white papers and presentations and deliverpresentations, if requested.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a master's degree in linguistics required with specialization inone of the core areas (phonology, morphology, syntax) or computationallinguistics preferred. Experience with one or more of the followingrequired: transliteration systems, name structures, computationallinguistics, phonology, or morphology. Should have experience working withnon-Indo-European languages (Arabic, Turkic, or African languages,preferred). Should have strong communication skills and be able to explaincomplex linguistic concepts to non-linguists.

Experience with SQL, Perl and C++ highly desirable.

Must be an American citizen. Must be able to qualify for a secretclearance. Must be willing to support a 24/7 site as needed. Occasionaltravel outside the United States is required.

2-3 years of experience preferred.
