Description:

The Department of Linguistics and Languages at McMaster University invitesapplications for a tenure-track position in Linguistics, at the rank ofAssistant Professor. The successful candidate will hold a PhD inLinguistics with specialization in Computational Linguistics. Secondaryspecialization in one of the following areas is desirable: cognitivelinguistics, cognitive modeling of language (e.g. exemplar-basedapproaches), neurolinguistics, corpus-based approaches. Applicants shouldhave a strong research focus, demonstrated teaching ability, and be willingto participate in departmental administrative duties. An ability to teachundergraduate courses in general linguistics, and graduate andundergraduate courses in computational linguistics and basic statistics isessential.

The Department of Linguistics and Languages presently offers undergraduatedegrees (Honours) in Linguistics and Cognitive Science of Language, and isthe home of a new interdisciplinary graduate program (M.Sc./PhD) in theCognitive Science of Language.

The starting date for the appointment is July 1, 2010. Starting salary willbe based on experience and qualifications.
